Active vacationing

Active vacationing, South Tyrol, and vacationing “down on the farm” in the Vinschgau / Venosta Valley go hand in hand! Every season of the year has its special appeal. In the summertime, hikers and mountainbikers who come to us for a vacation “down on the farm” will get their money’s worth. In the wintertime, South Tyrol is transformed into an El Dorado for winter sports enthusiasts. Ski areas like the Meran 2000, the Schnals / Senales Valley Glacier, or the Ortler/Ortles Ski Arena are in the immediate vicinity of our farmstead.

Hiking

The landscape of the Vinschgau has an unmistakable character, with a dry intra-Alpine climate, plenty of sunshine, winds, and mild temperatures. On the gently sloping sides of the Nörderberg, lush vegetation predominates, while the rugged face of the Sonnenberg is home to a unique flora. Especially in the autumn and early spring, when the opposite valley side is still blanketed in snow, you can undertake extensive hikes on the many trails and paths on the sunny side of the Sonnenberg and enjoy spectacular views. The famous “Waalwege” (picturesque paths along narrow water channels – so-called “Waale” – which were used in earlier times to irrigate agricultural fields) are open the whole year through for light and easy strolls in the Vinschgau.

Biking & more

It’s the ideal starting-point for endless biking tours and an El Dorado for cyclers. Hardly another spot in all of South Tyrol offers such a wide range of appealing options to explore the region by mountainbike or electric bicycle. You are thus promised perfect prerequisites for a cycling holiday! Less-practiced bicyclists, families with children, or simply visitors who want to take it easy can cycle along the broad, level valley floor. On the other hand, more-ambitious cyclists will discover challenging routes along pass roads and up mountain slopes suitable for sport bikes and mountainbikes which will test their mettle. The bicycle tour up the 2,760-meter-high Stilfser Pass / Passo Stelvio is one of the highest ridable Alpine crossings. With 48 hairpin bends and an altitude of 1,869 meters, the route is a highlight for every racing bicyclist.

Mountainbiking and Bicycling in the Vinschgau

In the Vinschgau, mountainbikers and freeriders will find a dense network of over 80 well-marked flowtrails. While offering various degrees of difficulty, the routes through alpine meadows as well as into regions of higher altitude are eminently rideable. Some of the single trails at the bottom of the valley and at low altitudes are suitable for beginners; others present an enticing challenge even for passionate high-altitude cyclists.

“Südtirol Rad” is a bicycle rental agency with locations at seven railway stations along the route. The rented bikes can be returned at every station marked “Südtirol Rad.” The Bikemobil Card allows you to make use of all of South Tyrol’s public transportation services at no additional cost while also offering one free use of a rented bicycle.
